God's Country Capsule

Fashion Designer: Aditi Srivastava

  • My narrative capsule collection draws on the reshaping of Indian identity in the aftermath of its colonization. In this collection, I combine pearls, sari-like drapes and heritage Banarasi silks with Victorian corsetry, safety pins and Tudor veils and hoods to tell a story of identity and resilience in complex narratives of power, resistance and survival.

My first look consists of a hand-linked safety pin top, inspired by vintage Indian black metal jewellery. This piece is accented with heritage pearls, mirror shells, and hand-linked washers. It is paired with a silk georgette skirt inspired by Sari draping.

The second look is a metal-boned corset made with hand-dyed, upcycled Banarasi silk paired with a mini skirt. The gabled hood references the Tudors, made entirely out of safety pins and accented with Indian black metal jewellery and a hand-linked washer blinder.
