1. What significant life experiences or events have influenced and shaped your artistic vision?
Stefani Elle:
I’ve been doing arts and crafts since I was a small child, drawing and sewing clothes for my dolls. We didn’t have a lot growing up so I had an overly developed imagination to compensate. I watched a lot of tv and movies. I eventually found anime, comics, and most importantly fashion. I’ve always been in pursuit of making special things, because I didn't have that growing up. Everything I do is always about doing it better than before or doing something I haven't seen anywhere.
AnnaKaren Alderete:
I grew up surrounded by creatives and dreamers, and that environment shaped me from a very young age. At just three years old, I became my uncle’s muse—he was a professional photographer who documented my entire childhood through his lens. My grandmother, who had a talent for sewing, would design and create custom outfits for my photoshoots and special events. As I got older, my uncle also introduced me to the world of makeup. He taught me how to do my eyeliner and contour, and encouraged me to experiment with color and expression through beauty.
When I turned 15, instead of having a traditional Quinceañera, I chose to go to Los Angeles with my aunt and uncle. There, I was exposed to the energy of Hollywood, which completely transformed my perspective. I eventually moved there and began modeling for fashion shows, music videos, and even started acting. That early blend of family influence, artistic exploration, and immersion in the entertainment industry has been the foundation of my creative journey.
Des Torres:
One of the most significant life experiences that shaped my artistic vision was when my daughter was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. Watching her face challenges, break barriers, and move forward with such strength and courage inspired me deeply. Through her, I learned what it truly means to be resilient—and that gave me the confidence to pursue what I love: fashion, styling, and building something of my own.
That experience gave birth to my brand, Desja Chanel, which is rooted in empowerment, bold self-expression, and emotional authenticity. I created a space where fashion isn't just about trends—it's about telling your story, embracing your identity, and dressing how you feel without apology.
Desja Chanel celebrates individuality with fearless use of color, striking patterns, and bold silhouettes. It’s for the woman who refuses to blend in, who finds power in her presence, and who knows that confidence starts from within but radiates through how she presents herself to the world.
Every piece I create or style is about encouraging others to be unapologetically themselves. Strength to dress how you feel. Boldness to wear every color and pattern. Courage to own your style. And power to feel beautiful—just as you are.
2. Collaboration often sparks fresh creativity. Can you share an example of a collaboration that led to an unexpected and exciting artistic outcome?
Stefani Elle:
I was extremely late to a photography event and I got there in time to catch the last few people. One was a model with braids and an amazing metallic jacket. We created some beautiful photos in very little time, and the creative chemistry was amazing. She is one of the most prolific models I’ve worked with and introduced me to stylist Des Torres. We have come together multiple times over the last two years to create some amazing work, including this carousel shoot! We call ourselves the #DreamTeam and honestly for good reason.
AnnaKaren Alderete:
Absolutely—collaboration often leads to the most unexpected and inspiring outcomes. One moment that stands out was when I met Stefani at a creative meet-up. I was actually about to leave when we crossed paths, and we spontaneously decided to shoot right outside the location. That impromptu moment turned into one of my favorite collaborations and led to the very shoot we’re discussing today.
Another key connection was with Des, our talented stylist, I met through a photoshoot I coordinated with a local makeup artist for Texas Fashion Week. Des styled that shoot, and from that point on, we’ve worked together on multiple projects. Our creative synergy has led to several magazine publications, and we continually push each other to grow and elevate our work. These experiences remind me that some of the best outcomes happen when you stay open to connection and let creativity lead the way.
Des Torres:
This particular spontaneous collaboration with photographer Stefanie and model Anna unfolded under intense time constraints and unpredictable weather. With less than 24 hours to prepare, I quickly styled a range of looks using hand-selected garments and accessories. Despite the cold, wind, and drizzle, we created magic in a limited window of time at the carousel location. Stefanie’s visionary angles, Anna’s radiant presence, and our shared creative energy resulted in a striking editorial—ultimately earning us a feature in your magazine. This project is a testament to the power of chemistry, instinct, and passion under pressure.
3. Walk us through a specific project that challenged your creative boundaries. How did you approach it, and what did you learn from the experience?
Stefani Elle:
When Covid hit, I had not yet found other creatives to work with. It didn’t look like any were going to fall from the sky so I started shooting self portraits to get a portfolio going. I would go to abandoned places, next to highways, etc and shoot on self timer. This was actually incredibly difficult and good results were hard to get. I could not see what I was shooting and I didnt have makeup or wardrobe, I really thought I was making a fool of myself. What I didn’t yet realize is that I was taking a big lesson in empathy for subjects in front of the lens. Directing people, who aren't always models, that I’m photographing is now one of my greatest strengths and most complimented traits.
AnnaKaren Alderete:
This project in particular really pushed my creative boundaries due to unexpected challenges. On the day of the shoot, the weather was colder than expected, which made it tough on everyone involved—especially the models. To add to that, we ran into some electrical issues with our lighting setup. Despite the setbacks, we stayed focused, adapted quickly, and leaned on each other’s strengths to make it work.
In the end, the shoot turned out beautifully and we were thrilled to see it published. It reminded me that passion and perseverance always pay off. We not only captured stunning images, but also created lasting memories and learned valuable lessons about staying flexible and prepared for anything. Every challenge brought us closer as a team and made the final outcome even more rewarding.
Des Torres:
One of the most challenging—and rewarding—projects I’ve taken on was being asked to coordinate one of the biggest fashion shows in Dallas, Texas. I was honored to accept the role, but I won’t lie—I was beyond nervous. I’ve produced many events before, but nothing on this scale. It was just me and two assistants managing over 300 models and 9 designers from all over the United States.
I personally researched and selected each designer, making sure their work aligned with the vision of the show. The process involved model casting, rehearsals, fittings, and four full days of preparation leading up to the final event. There were sleepless nights, moments of doubt, and times I felt exhausted and overwhelmed—but I kept reminding myself that I belonged in that room and was capable of delivering something great.
When showtime came, it wasn’t perfect—we had minor hiccups—but nothing we couldn’t fix. In the end, the show ran beautifully and was truly one for the books. What I took away from that experience is that growth lives in discomfort. If you’re not feeling a little nervous or stretched, you’re probably not pushing yourself far enough. That experience not only built my confidence but reminded me of the power of faith, preparation, and trusting my purpose.
4. In the ever-evolving art world, what do you believe sets your work apart and makes it unique or groundbreaking?
Stefani Elle:
While I don’t think my work would be what it is without the amazing people I have the good fortune to collaborate with, I would say my distinction is my overall vision. Nothing is ever just “nice background with pretty model in front”. It’s the environment, the character we create, the story we are telling. That and my use of vivid color, I bring my inspiration to life.
AnnaKaren Alderete:
I believe what sets my work apart is the understanding that every individual brings something entirely unique to the table—including myself. We all carry our own stories, shaped by personal experiences, culture, and perspective. My work is deeply rooted in that belief. I aim to highlight the beauty in individuality, creating looks and moments that feel authentic and emotionally connected.
What makes my approach stand out is how I collaborate—I don’t just bring my skills, I bring my perspective while remaining open to the vision of others. It’s in that blend of individuality and collaboration where I feel the most groundbreaking work happens.
Des Torres:
I think what makes my work stand out is how I mix patterns, prints, and textures in ways that feel bold but still wearable. I love playing with contrast—like pairing something edgy with something soft or unexpected color combos—and that keeps things visually interesting. But beyond just the visuals, I always try to style with intention. Whether I’m creating a look for a shoot or curating pieces for my boutique, I want it to feel authentic and empowering for whoever’s wearing it. I pull a lot of inspiration from street style, culture, and everyday women, and I think that relatability is what makes my work feel fresh and grounded.
5. As you reflect on your journey, are there any specific goals or milestones you've set for your artistic career in the coming years?
Stefani Elle:
I very much want to get into making more films. I think a lot of my interests are taking me in this direction and it’s going to require a lot more of me to make, not just beautiful movies, but exciting stories that connect with audiences.
AnnaKaren Alderete:
Yes, I’ve always had very specific goals for my artistic journey. I’m someone who knows exactly what I want and the path I want to take to get there. At the same time, I’m a firm believer in divine timing—good things come when they’re meant to. I trust that my work will speak for itself and be recognized in ways that truly matter.
While I prefer to keep my goals private for now, I’m actively working behind the scenes to bring them to life. I believe in letting the results speak louder than the plans, and when the time is right, everything I’ve been building will come into fruition.
Des Torres:
As I reflect on where ive been, im really proud of the growth - but im also excited about whats ahead. My vision is to grow as a creative force in the fashion industry by expanding my brand’s reach through national editorial features, pop-up experiences, and immersive runway shows that express bold, empowering stories through style. I aspire to design and launch my own fashion collection—one that reflects strength, individuality, and fearless creativity—and share it with the world. As my boutique evolves, I envision it becoming a larger operation that not only offers exceptional fashion but also provides meaningful job opportunities for individuals with special needs, beginning with my daughter. I’m passionate about using fashion as a platform for inclusivity, empowerment, and self-expression, while also mentoring the next generation of creatives and building community-driven impact through every step of my journey.
