RESISTANCE AND ADAPTATION

Photographer: Paula Nietner

  • Resistance and adaptation aren’t opposites — they happen together, like the thorn and the flower. One offers protection, the other brings change and together, they make life possible. The thistle is shaped by this contrast:

It defends itself with sharp leaves, but blooms at the same time.

The spikes symbolize challenge and survival. The soft, bright flower at its center brings movement and something almost playful.

    Change doesn’t happen without pressure

    Growth needs resistance

    And even beauty needs tension.

The thistle holds all of this in one form. It shows us that balance isn’t perfect, it’s made of opposites that depend on each other. Without light, there’s no shadow. Without one side, the other can’t exist.

This is not just about a plant. It’s about the world. A planet that pushes back, but still finds a way forward. A climate that challenges us, but also teaches us how to adapt.

The future won’t be easy, but it will be shaped by change
