Neon Nocturne
Creative Director/Set Designer/Retoucher/Art Director/Photographer/Photo Editor: Fran Baur
1. What significant life experiences or events have influenced and shaped your artistic vision?
It was never a specific experience. Rather, it was a sudden flare of passion when I seriously engaged with photography for the first time at 15. At that moment, it was clear to me: “I will become a photographer.” From there, everything slowly built upon itself — the more I immersed myself, the more it became part of me. However, it was important to me from the beginning to express myself creatively as much as possible. That’s why I quickly gravitated toward fashion and beauty photography.
2. Collaboration often sparks fresh creativity. Can you share an example of a collaboration that led to an unexpected and exciting artistic outcome?
One collaboration that comes to mind is with an Italian hat designer. I organized an editorial for it. I wanted to present the beautiful hats in a unique and creative way. For that, I decided on various reflective mirror foils. Combined with our talented model and the work of my hair and make-up artist, we achieved stunning results. This series is still one of my personal favorites.
3. Walk us through a specific project that challenged your creative boundaries. How did you approach it, and what did you learn from the experience?
I immediately think of working with a fashion designer friend from Berlin. I led the fashion editorial for her first collection, taking on art direction, photography, video, and set design. It was a variety of tasks to manage simultaneously, requiring a lot of preparation and effort. It was a fantastic experience! This project reminded me once again that good preparation is essential. If you also keep a cool head, you’ll always end up with a great result.
4. In the ever-evolving art world, what do you believe sets your work apart and makes it unique or groundbreaking?
Since I’m a very self-critical person and constantly try to improve my work, I wouldn’t currently call it “groundbreak- ing.” I believe what makes my work stand out is the effort to convey my understanding of aesthetics and beauty with as much authenticity as possible.
5. As you reflect on your journey, are there any specific goals or milestones you've set for your artistic career in the coming years?
I will move to Tokyo this year. Therefore, one of my top goals is to build new connections and collaborations in Japan and to establish myself in the Japanese photography market.
6. How did you discover Mob and what made you choose us? <3
Initially through Instagram and later again via the platform Kavyar. I really liked the bold and diverse style of your magazine.
