Leicester Youth is a fashion portrait series that explores identity, self-expression, and cultural plurality through the lens of contemporary youth in Leicester. Drawing inspiration from subculture, street style, and historical references, the project presents fashion as a language through which individuality and belonging coexist.
The styling blends gothic, romantic, and urban elements, while bold makeup, layered textures, and strong silhouettes challenge conventional beauty norms. Each portrait emphasises attitude over perfection, allowing the subjects’ presence and character to take centre stage. The visual contrasts between softness and strength, tradition and rebellion, reflect the complexity of youth navigating modern urban life.
Set against both studio and architectural backdrops, the series situates fashion within the city itself, positioning Leicester as an active influence. Leicester Youth celebrates diversity, confidence, and the freedom to exist beyond categorisation — presenting youth not as a trend, but as a powerful, evolving identity.
